Even in 2026, Baldur's Gate 3 players continue to debate how far the six core ability scores can be pushed. These numbers—strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma—shape hit points, weapon accuracy, save difficulty, and dialogue outcomes. Ability scores scale from 1 to 30, with 1 imposing a -5 penalty and 30 granting a +10 bonus. Players can raise them through point buy, ability score improvements, consumables, equipment, and rare story interactions. But how high can one character push all six at once? The answer depends on class choice, gear slots, and whether a buff can leave Act Two.

The Building Blocks Of Ability Scores
At character creation, Baldur's Gate 3 uses point buy. The lowest score is 8, the highest is 15, and then a player adds +2 to one score and +1 to another. One stat can therefore start at 17. Most classes get three Ability Score Improvements, but fighters and rogues get four. Each improvement adds two points anywhere, up to 20 per score. Four improvements provide eight additional points, which is enough to raise two key scores to 20.
Can a player stop there? Hardly. Items and story effects ignore or extend many of those limits.
Strength Reaches The Highest Ceiling
Strength is the easiest score to inflate. The Elixir of Cloud Giant Strength sets a character's strength to 27 for one day, regardless of base score. The Elixir of Hill Giant Strength sets it to 21. But 27 is not the absolute maximum. Auntie Ethel's boon can add +1 permanently, and Araj Oblodra's potion can add +2 if Astarion cooperates. Ethel's Broken Promises potion can boost strength by 2 for one day, though it applies a permanent -1 penalty afterward. Thaniel grants +1 to all ability scores in the final battle. The Devilfoil Mask adds +1 strength for each nearby creature wearing one. With four masks equipped by the party, that is +3. A nearby merregon in the House of Hope could push strength to 30, though that setup is situational.
Dexterity And Constitution Have Fewer Escape Routes
Dexterity has fewer boosts. Leveling can reach 20, Ethel and Thaniel add +2 combined, Nimblefinger Gloves give gnomes +2 without a cap, and the Mirror of Loss can grant +2 to any score, up to 24. That puts dexterity's practical ceiling at 24. The Gloves of Dexterity set it to 18, which is useful for saving points in a multi-stat build but not for breaking records.
Constitution is straightforward. Most constitution gear caps at 20. The Amulet of Greater Health simply sets the score to 23, making it the most efficient choice because it costs no ability points and only uses one neck slot.
Intelligence, Wisdom, And Charisma
Intelligence is tricky because the hidden Sharran Sanctuary in Act Two can add +5 to intelligence, wisdom, and charisma. However, that buff cannot be carried into Act Three. With leveling plus Ethel's boon, intelligence can reach 26 inside Act Two. Outside that window, the Warped Headband of Intellect sets it to 17, which is efficient but not record-setting.
Wisdom has no high-setting equipment. It can reach 26 with the Sharran buff in Act Two. Outside that, it tops at 22 with Ethel and Thaniel, or 24 if the Mirror of Loss is used on it.
Charisma receives the most support. The Birthright hat adds +2 up to 22, and Duke Ravengard's Longsword adds +2 up to 24. The Mirror of Loss also grants an extra +1 to charisma while still respecting the 24 cap. In Act Two, charisma can reach 26 with Ethel's boon and the Sharran Sanctuary.
Putting It All Together
For a simultaneous endgame stat spread, the most efficient setup uses the Elixir of Cloud Giant Strength and the Amulet of Greater Health, allowing strength and constitution to start at 8. Wisdom and charisma receive the ability score improvements. The Gloves of Dexterity provide 18 dexterity, and the Warped Headband of Intellect provides 17 intelligence. Thaniel's final fight bonus adds +1 to base stats.
The resulting spread is:
| Ability Score | Simultaneous Value | Key Source |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | 27 | Cloud Giant Strength elixir |
| Dexterity | 18 | Gloves of Dexterity |
| Constitution | 23 | Amulet of Greater Health |
| Intelligence | 17 | Warped Headband of Intellect |
| Wisdom | 24 | ASIs, Ethel, Thaniel |
| Charisma | 24 | ASIs, Mirror of Loss, sword |

Because the Sharran Sanctuary buff is locked to Act Two, it is not optimal for the Act Three endgame setup. Therefore, no player character can realistically have every ability score above 20 at the same time. Still, a spread of 27 strength, 18 dexterity, 23 constitution, 17 intelligence, 24 wisdom, and 24 charisma is extraordinarily powerful. For players willing to plan every ASI, item slot, and story choice, the final build is a devastating all-rounder.
