As I stood at the entrance to the Goblin Camp, I couldn't help but wonder: was I truly prepared to face the formidable leaders lurking within? The year 2025 has brought some significant updates to Baldur's Gate 3, particularly with Patch 7 changes that made these encounters more challenging than ever. Today, I want to share my personal journey of taking down Minthara and Dror Ragzlin - two of the most rewarding bosses in Act One.

The Essential First Step: Recruiting Halsin
Before even thinking about confronting the goblin leaders, I knew I needed reinforcements. Deep within the temple's prison, I found Halsin trapped in bear form, surrounded by tormenting goblins. Have you ever tried negotiating with goblins while they're torturing a bear? Let me tell you, it's not exactly diplomatic. After dispatching the goblins and freeing Halsin, I convinced the powerful druid to join my cause. This gave me a crucial advantage - a party of five instead of four!
With Bear-Halsin at my side, we cleared the nearby goblin rangers. But the real challenge was yet to come.
Facing Minthara: The Drow Paladin

Understanding the Threat
Minthara isn't your average enemy. Here's what I learned about her capabilities:
Combat Statistics:
-
HP: 57
-
AC: 15
-
Key Abilities: Dual Wielder, Extra Attack, Spellcasting
-
Notable Spells: Hold Person, Divine Smite, Mirror Image
Key Weaknesses:
-
Sunlight Sensitivity (disadvantage in sunlight)
-
Limited mobility in tight spaces
My Battle Strategy
I positioned my party carefully before engaging:
-
Rogue/Ranged Character: On the right-side ladder for high ground advantage
-
Halsin + Tank: Blocking the bridge choke point
-
Remaining Members: Providing ranged support
First, I eliminated the scrying eye and patrolling goblin. Then, I focused on Rozzak, Minthara's minion who desperately tried to reach the war drum. With him out of the picture, Minthara charged straight into our trap at the bridge.

The Rewards - To Kill or Not to Kill?
This is where things get interesting! You have two options:
Option 1: Knock Her Out
-
Toggle Non-Lethal damage in your spellbook
-
Use melee attacks only (ranged/spells will kill her)
-
Recruit her later at Moonrise Towers in Act Two
Option 2: Permanent Solution
-
Take her magical mace, Xyanyde
-
Acquire Spidersilk Armor +1 (+1 Stealth, Advantage on Constitution saves)

The Bigger Challenge: Dror Ragzlin

Why Dror is More Dangerous
Dror Ragzlin presents a completely different kind of threat:
Combat Statistics:
-
HP: 75
-
AC: 14
-
Key Abilities: Martial Advantage, Extra Attack
-
Honour Mode Addition: Arachnid Compulsion (controls spiders)
Party Composition in His Room:
-
2 Humanoid Rangers
-
1 Goblin Ranger
-
1 Goblin Devout
-
1 Goblin Warlock
-
1 Goblin Bouyahg
-
Dror himself
That's seven enemies total - no wonder I needed Halsin's help!
My Multi-Level Strategy

I divided my party into two groups:
Group One (Ground Team):
-
Halsin and main tank
-
Additional melee fighter
Group Two (Rafter Team):
-
Two ranged characters
-
Strategic positioning above the battle
Getting to the rafters required some platforming:
-
Climb ladder near Minthara's room
-
Jump stone gap to path above Dror's room
-
Reach rafters from tall pillar (may need Enhance Jump)
The Battle Unfolds
While Dror was busy giving his speech, I positioned my teams:
-
Rafter team: Focused on enemies near war drums
-
Ground team: Engaged farthest enemies first

Key Tactics That Worked for Me:
-
Eliminate drum-threats immediately
-
Use Halsin to bait enemies away from ranged characters
-
Apply debuffs like Bane or Hex on Dror
-
Focus on his low Dexterity with control spells
The Spider Pit Dilemma

That spider pit looks tempting, right? Think twice! In Honour Mode (thanks to Patch 7 changes), pushing Dror into the pit activates his Arachnid Compulsion ability, turning the spiders against you. On lower difficulties, however, a well-placed Thunderwave can make this fight much easier.
The Sweet Rewards

Defeating Dror Ragzlin grants you:
-
Faithbreaker: Powerful hammer with pushback effect
-
Treasure Room Key (above his throne)
Treasure Room Contents:
| Item | Effect |
|---|---|
| Helmet Of Grit | Bonus action when below half health, +1 Dex saves |
| Springstep Boots | Improved movement when dashing |
| Amulet Of Selûne's Chosen | Selune's Dream cantrip (healing with sleep risk) |
| 400-500 gold | Well, it's gold! |
Final Thoughts
What made these battles memorable wasn't just the loot - it was the strategic planning and execution. The 2025 updates have made these encounters more dynamic, requiring careful consideration of positioning, ability usage, and party composition.
Remember: preparation is everything. With Halsin by your side and these strategies in mind, you'll be celebrating at the Druid's Grove in no time. And trust me, that victory party is absolutely worth the effort!
